Even with places starting to open back up over the pandemic, marketers are taking things cautiously. They’re not looking at what’s happening tomorrow, but rather weeks or even months from now. And even with the best planning and most astute eye on the horizon, their to-do list is meanwhile growing and growing.
For one, they’ve had to shift their focus. Campaigns aren’t converting like they used to because life isn’t going along like it used to. Social distancing, mandated quarantines and “the new normal” are the new normal, and marketing teams have had to adjust — and fast. You have to stay front-of-mind, but also have to take into account that you’ll need to squeeze even higher conversions out of ever-shrinking budgets.
And to that end, your to-do list just keeps growing and growing. There’s Zoom meetings and Skype calls and Slack notes and Asana tasks and Trello notes. Even though we have more hours at home and more supposed productivity, we’re drowning in a sea of digital “stuff”
Rid Yourself of the Thought that “No One Can Do It Like I Can”
One of the biggest things holding you back from tackling that marketing checklist isn’t one more silver bullet tool or system. It’s… you. As marketers ourselves, we often have the feeling that no one can do our work quite like we can — and that’s true. No one has your unique set of skills, your talents, nor your abilities or knowledge. It’s absolutely true that they can’t do it like you can.
But it is possible that they can do it. Their approach might be different – but it also might be refreshing and eye-opening. It might show you an angle or perspective you hadn’t considered. It might break you out of the tunnel vision you’re feeling when you look at tasks as hurdles rather than milestones. It might be that breath of fresh air you’ve been hoping for to jolt you out of a task-oriented stupor and remind you of why it is that you do what you do.
Because let’s face it, you’ve got a great product or service that people deserve to know about, and you’re great at communicating those benefits to people in a way that makes them want to be a part of it.
But sometimes, you need a little help…
We’re Not Superhuman
Even with copious amounts of coffee or tea, we can’t burrow through our tasks and expect that every one of them is done flawlessly. There’s no faster way to experience burnout and frustration. Instead, take a step back from those to-do’s and ask for help.
